Jacek Buhl
Jacek Buhl is a self-taught percussionist tied to the legendary Mózg club in Bydgoszcz, Poland. At the moment, his work seems to be split into two genres; trance-like, repetitive rhythms inspired by Bill Martin’s “Riddim: Claves of African Origin,” the African clubbing scene or the Portuguese label Principe while at the same time somewhat drawing on the free improvisation of Toshi Tsuchutori, lots of colour, air and whirling. He started playing with Variete, and quickly moved on to the Polish jass and post-jass scenes in groups like Trytiny, Syfon, The Cyclish and Spejs. At the moment, Jacek’s biggest projects are IIALAIMEDAII, Jachna/Mazurkiewicz/Buhl Trio, Buhl/Wysocki/Szwarc Trio and KWARTET, as well as a percussive duets with Piotr Dąbrowski and an electro-acoustic one with Piotr Grygor.
