LightSounds 2024

The second edition of LightSounds took place on 23–24 November 2024 in The Stage at Rich Mix, London.

The first day began with a workshop by Blanca Regina and a talk by Gwendolyn Kassenaar, who then performed in the opening set alongside the jazz legend Jacek Buhl, the young Canadian firebrand Jack Campbell and Sue Lynch’s particular saxophone. The second and third concerts both heavily featured percussion, though perhaps not of the sort normally thought of in contemporary art: the ancient joṛī, an instrument that was nearly extinct until just a few decades ago, followed by another novel group, Beibei Wang and Doron Sadja.

The second day included a Liquid Lights workshop run by Insight Lighting, while Sadja returned to lead a group through an exploration of the tools of the art. Three more sets followed, including two London premieres, Dr. Truna’s Truna Trio and Martin Messier’s Elusive Matter, separated by the duet of Blanca Regina and Peter Cusack.

LightSounds 2024 was funded in part by the Arts Council of England, with partners Our ‘PL’ace Foundation, Rich Mix and Insight Lighting.
